I have recently started shirring with elastic thread and I love it. Right now everything I sew is being shirred but after the first project I did I ended up knocking out the timing on my machine in order to try and prevent this from happening I asked the person who repaired my sewing machine what to do and he said to make sure that at the start of each row of shirring you have an elastic tail and I think that's the key. When I first started shirring I had gotten the instructions from blogs and one blog said instead of having to start new on each row to just lift the foot and slide the fabric over to the next row, I did this and think this what messed up machine.
While I love reading blogs and love learning new tricks, I think from now on I will be careful about some of the things I try without doing some research behind it first.
